Every family that has created wealth eventually asks the same question. Not how do we grow this — but can we hold it, and what will it do to us? Growing wealth has had a science for more than a century. Holding it has had no discipline — only professions that manage wealth's financial form, and families left alone with the rest. Wealth stewardship is the study and practice of holding wealth well — cultivating and renewing the many forms of wealth, and forming the people who hold them, across time and generations. ## Beyond Management Wealth management optimises an asset. Wealth stewardship holds a life. One asks what the money should do next. The other asks what the wealth is doing to the people who hold it — and what they must become to hold it well. One can be hired. The other can only be formed. A family can employ the finest managers in the world and still have no stewardship. One can be hired. The other can only be formed. ## Stewardship Intelligence When the shock comes — the succession, the illness, the sudden sale — some families bend and recover. Others, with identical balance sheets, break. The difference is not luck, and it is not advice. It is a capacity, formed before the event or absent when it arrives. We call that capacity Stewardship Intelligence: the capacity to recognise, cultivate, coordinate, and transmit multiple forms of value across time in ways that increase flourishing while preserving the vitality, adaptability, and stewardship capacity of those who follow. Financial Expertise can be hired. Stewardship Intelligence cannot. ## The Theory Beneath What, then, is being held?
