Within families, money can stand for love, safety, recognition, control, belonging or obligation. Conversations become difficult when people believe they are discussing the same thing while carrying different meanings and expectations. This course helps participants understand those patterns and practise opening more constructive conversations about wealth. Each participant takes part on their own and decides what to share.

What we will work with

  • What we learn about money in families before anyone teaches us.
  • Silence, expectations and different ideas of fairness across generations.
  • Telling apart facts, feelings, roles, rights and responsibilities in a conversation.
  • Practising ways to begin, listen, disagree and leave room for another person's judgment.

What you can take away

A practical conversation framework, and your own preparation for one conversation you may choose to begin.

Who it is for

Parents, adult children, partners and other family members who want more thoughtful conversations about wealth. Also relevant to professionals who want to understand the family context.

Age

18+. A version with younger family members would be designed and safeguarded separately.

Boundary

Education and communication practice; not family therapy, dispute resolution or mediation.
